The Virginia Department of Forensic Science announced it has made its 7,000th hit to the state's DNA database. A hit occurs when DNA recovered from a crime scene is matched to a sample from an individual or a case already in the databank. Under Virginia law, all convicted felons must submit a DNA sample. The number of DNA samples in the state database is now about 350,000.
