Washington State Has Its' 379 Hit

As of February, 2011, the CODIS DNA lab in Seattle, Washington, announced that its DNA database has more than 194,000 DNA profiles.  CODIS matched 379 DNA profiles found at new crime scenes with DNA profiles taken previously from people when they were convicted of crimes including burglary, homicides, rapes, robberies, assaults and sex and kidnapping offenses. More than one-third of those 379 hits - up from 257 in 2009 - ended up solving violent crimes, according to a Washington State Patrol bulletin issued earlier this week. The lab also stated that it adds about 1,400 additional DNA profiles to its database each month.
