|A Cold Case Solved in Arizona|
Phoenix Police announced that cold case detectives matched DNA from a 1999 crime scene to the DNA of Clayton Roinuse, who was already serving a life sentence for a 2002 murder. Roinuse was arrested on December 7, and is charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, sexual assault and attempted murder of Michelle Bennett on Jan. 6, 1999. Police said Roinuse robbed the Castle Boutique business at gunpoint and kidnapped the victim, Ms. Bennett, who at the time was a married 25-year-old and mother of an 8-month-old boy.
Roinuse took the victim to a desert area, where he sexually assaulted her and shot her twice, leaving her for dead. After the suspect left the area, Mrs. Bennett crawled from the scene and was found by a hunter, who provided aid and called for emergency services. After surviving this vicious attack, Michelle Bennett is partially paralyzed, needs help doing some simple tasks and was forced to give up her son to relatives after her husband died of cancer in 2002.
