Pasco County Sheriff's deputies in Florida arrested 46-year-old John Wayne Folds on December 14.  Prosecutors charged Folds with the murder of Frank T. Kouny in a SeaTac motel in Seattle, Washington on February 15, 1983.  Thirty-six-year-old Kouny was a San Francisco businessman who flew to Seattle to set up a display at a gift show in February of 1983. A maid found Kouny's body in a room at the Motel 6 on February 15.  He had been stabbed multiple times.
Earlier this year, cold case detectives reviewed the cold case and sent evidence collected at the motel room to the Washington State Patrol crime lab. The evidence included several cigarette butts and oral swabs from Kouny.  In November, the crime lab matched the DNA evidence to Folds.  His DNA was in a DNA database from a 2002 felony arrest in Florida. Folds has been booked into jail on a warrant for murder pending extradition. His bail has been set at $1 million.
